Construction began on Nichols School’s new Student Commons in the summer of 2018. This innovative new facility was designed for expanded dining, meeting and gathering spaces and is an exciting and long-awaited addition to our campus. The new Student Commons, located between the Rand Dining Room in Mitchell Hall and the Flickinger Performing Arts Center, was completed in August 2019 in preparation for the 2019-20 school year.
The Student Commons serves as a gathering area for students to spend their free time during the school day, in addition to providing space for more students to eat lunch at the same time. It also increases our event space and allows us to host more group meetings and community programs. The new multipurpose room for lectures, meetings and presentations features a video screen and a sliding door, allowing for flexibility within the new space depending on the event. The space has wheelchair access and is climate-controlled.
A new east-facing Duffy Courtyard overlooking the quadrangle and a west-facing terrace overlooking Peek and Truscott Fields frame the building.
Nichols School was fortunate to receive strong philanthropic support for this $4.5 million project. The School continues to secure funding for the project beyond its completion.
